Like everyone else during the pandemic, I had bought a switch and played many hours of animal crossing, perfecting my island, finding the best villagers and crafting until my finger were numb. Of course when work started again I didn’t have time for that anymore and my switch went untouched for years.
While moving and clearing out some space I decided to sell my old switch lite, I didn’t play it anymore and someone else could get the same enjoyment I had gotten. Unfortunately, I was unaware that animal crossing islands needed to be backed up to be transferred to a new switch. So, A few year later when i was getting the itch for animal crossing again, I purchased a switch second-hand, and I unfortunately found out the hard way you are supposed to back up your island.
I was devastated, all those hours, all my villagers, gone forever. I did not even open the game for another 4 months to restart because I was so upset. My new switch got plenty of use though, between Pokemon, Mariokart and the newly released, Mario Party Jamboree. I had countless hours of fun playing and laughing with family and friend and i forgot about the whole animal crossing island mishap.
That was until this year in mid-march. I had started to see more animal crossing new come across my feed as well as many TikTok lives of others playing. I decided i would push through the grind and restart. I have had a lot of fun getting back to where I was and definitely some struggling with parts I don’t remember or missing a crafting recipe I need. I have found some new favorite villagers along the way and some I don’t love as well. I’m hoping they move away soon. Overall I am glad to be enjoying animal crossing again and hope to make my island bigger and better than ever than it ever was.
